MD2WA User Guide

Welcome to the comprehensive guide for MD2WA — your go-to tool for formatting WhatsApp messages. This guide covers everything from basic usage to advanced features and tips.

Getting Started

MD2WA is a browser-based tool that requires no installation or sign-up. Simply visit the homepage to start using the rich text editor. The interface is split into two main panels: the Editor on the left and the Preview on the right.

As you type and format text in the editor, the preview panel updates in real-time to show you exactly how your message will appear in WhatsApp. When you are happy with the result, click the Copy button to copy the formatted text to your clipboard.

The Stats Panel above the editor shows useful information like character count, word count, and how close you are to WhatsApp's 4,096-character message limit.

Using the Editor

The MD2WA editor is built on TipTap, a powerful rich text editing framework. It works much like any word processor you have used before — Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or Apple Pages.

The toolbar at the top of the editor provides buttons for all supported formatting options. Simply select text and click a toolbar button to apply formatting. You can also use keyboard shortcuts for faster formatting — see the Keyboard Shortcuts section below.

The editor supports multiple paragraphs, nested lists, and combination formatting (e.g., bold italic text). Content is automatically saved to your browser's local storage so you will not lose your work if you accidentally close the tab.

Templates

MD2WA includes a template system that lets you save frequently used message formats and reuse them later. This is perfect for community managers, team leads, or anyone who sends similar formatted messages regularly.

To save a template, click the Templates button in the toolbar, give your template a name, and save. Templates are stored in your browser's local storage and will persist across sessions. You can manage (rename or delete) your templates from the same panel.

Import & Export

The Import/Export feature lets you bring text into the editor from external files and export your formatted messages. This is useful for preparing messages in advance or sharing templates with others.

Click the Import/Export button in the toolbar to access these features. You can import plain text files and export your work in multiple formats including plain text and WhatsApp-formatted text.

Tips & Tricks

  • Combine formatting: You can apply multiple formats to the same text — for example, bold and italic together produces *_text_* in WhatsApp.
  • Use the character counter: Keep an eye on the Stats Panel to ensure your message stays within WhatsApp's 4,096-character limit.
  • Save templates for recurring messages: If you send weekly updates or regular announcements, save the format as a template.
  • Use Find & Replace: Need to change a name or term throughout your message? The Find & Replace feature makes it quick.
  • Try dark mode: Working late? Switch to dark mode using the moon icon in the navigation bar for a comfortable editing experience.
  • Use our other tools: Check out the WhatsApp Link Generator for creating click-to-chat links, and the Character Counter for standalone text analysis.
